Damiano's Defence arises after 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 f6. ECO code: C40.

Named after Pedro Damiano (1480–1544), who actually advised against playing it. The move weakens the kingside fatally—after 3.Nxe5! fxe5?? 4.Qh5+ leads to devastating consequences. Even the best continuation 3...Qe7 leaves Black with a poor position. This is considered one of the worst possible defences to 1.e4 e5.
