What is Correspondence Chess?

Correspondence chess is chess played over long distances by transmitting moves through postal mail, email, or online servers. Each player typically has days or even weeks to consider each move, allowing for extensive analysis—often with the aid of chess engines, books, and databases. Correspondence chess has its own world championship and title system, administered by the ICCF (International Correspondence Chess Federation).
