Corresponding Squares

Corresponding squares (or related squares) are pairs of squares in king and pawn endgames where the position of one king determines the required position of the other. If one king moves to its square in the pair, the defending king must move to the corresponding square to maintain the defence. The concept is essential for understanding complex pawn endgames, particularly those involving opposition and triangulation.
