What is Double Check?

A double check is a check delivered simultaneously by two pieces—typically the result of a discovered check in which the moving piece also gives check. Since two pieces attack the king simultaneously, the only defence is to move the king—blocking or capturing can only deal with one of the checking pieces. Double checks are extremely powerful and often lead to checkmate.
