Forsyth Edwards Notation

Forsyth-Edwards Notation (FEN) is a standard text format for recording chess positions. Devised by David Forsyth in the 19th century and extended by Steven Edwards, FEN records six fields: piece placement (rank by rank from the eighth to the first), active colour, castling availability, en passant target square, halfmove clock, and fullmove number.
