Look & Learn Chess with Pillsbury.

Only Chess

Three easy puzzles I found in the ‘Look and Learn’ comic, one
of which mentions William the Conqueror’s interest in Chess.

One of the puzzles given is this White to play position.

I’m sure I have seen it before. The 1978 L & L say it is from a game;
‘...played nearly a century ago.’ but I cannot find the game. Help!

I did find an incredible RHP game with the same theme.
Rook sac, Queen sac and Bishop mate. The final position.

Then onto A wonderful blindfold game played by Henry Pillsbury.
We end with a pitfall a handful of RHP players have fallen into.

STOP PRESS: the position from the Look and Learn I could not find
was from the game Vaccaroni-Mazzoni, (or Mazzocchi) Rome, 1891.
a couple of eminent Chess Historians found it. Thank You lads.
