Debates

I am a mischievous devil to put you libs on the spot, but a guy in Bible study asked this on Sunday:

If you believe people have a right to the necessities of life, who has the obligation to provide them? Further, why does that obligation belong to that particular person?
And who decides who should provide such rights?

I hope to have a ‘Catch 22’ follow-up.

Acts 4:32 -

"All the believers were one in heart and mind. No one claimed that any of their possessions was their own, but they shared everything they had."

The first Christians were also the first socialists.

Luke 3:11 -

And John replied, “The man who has two tunics is to share with him who has none; and he who has food is to do the same.”

The answer, according to your bible, is whoever has it to give.

But ... the story continues in the next few verses with Ananias and Sapphira who lied and said they sold all that they had, when in fact they did not. They were killed by the Holy Spirit.

So the story has far more to it than just being socialist. They were all believers in God, and baptised into Christ by the Holy Spirit, and they were commanded to live righteously, otherwise death could have been the end result.

Lots of people share and give to the poor.
Did you also read where Jesus said to be content with your wages?

Hold on. Not in the modern policy sense, ,,,you are being anachronistic. Be ingenious pleas
They practiced communal sharing, but where did they teach government ownership or compulsory redistribution of private property?. It is not 2000 years ago
If the early Christians voluntarily gave their possessions to help the poor, does that prove that voluntary charity and government enforced redistribution are morally equivalent? Like I say. Anachronism.
I think that there us a Christian obligation to help others, but there is a separate question of who has the authority to compel that help. This a concept you libs cannot wrap your heads around.

Do you suggest no private ownership of property? Like Shavixmir, who thinks that everyone should own everything together. Sounds like a management nightmare to me.!

Compulsory?

Socialism is where the community decides how to use resources. No one is "forcing" the community if the community is regulating resources.

How many times have people explained socialism to you and still don't know what it is?

Yes, but my revered grandmother replies with this:

There is an important qualification. The early Christians were not commanded by the apostles to abolish private property or surrender all possessions to the state. In fact, Peter’s confrontation with Ananias makes that particularly clear:

“Didn’t it belong to you before it was sold? And after it was sold, wasn’t the money at your disposal?”
— Acts 5:4
Paul also repeatedly emphasizes voluntary generosity rather than compulsory redistribution. In 2 Corinthians 9:7, for example:

“Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion.”

So there you have it Granny says ‘In Your Face’

You are so out there, guard your cred, man.

Robert deNero made 2 movies in 3 1/2 years ..netting him $1B. When he wraps up speaking with Springsteen, singing in a very costly stadium built by a billionaire, where he sells tickets at $500 apiece, the two of them can be those who “ give what they have to give!!!!!! “””

Y’all are pitiful.

I saw some clips of that convention going on at this moment, they never mentioned one plan of the future. They rant and raved about Trump. Absolutely unbelievable. Using tremendous profanity and dressed like street urchins. Flip over to one of Trump‘s rallies and see some fire Americans.

Same for socialism. The community decides such matters; no one forces them.
