"Don't play that move!"... and then I play it

I have recently developed a really bad habit.
I'll look at a move, say to myself "that is awful - do not play that". Then I'll look at other moves, none seem really satisfying, then I'll see a move and go "Ah-ha!" and play it.
And then I realise it is the move I originally discarded, and a quick look shows it is really awful.

I don't know why I've started doing this. Has anyone else come across this? And do they know why they started doing this?

It is really weird. Normally I play moves of varying quality, thinking they are good, but my judgement is that of a 1600-1700 player.
But this is the first time I've started playing moves I know to be bad.

Alexander Kotov describes exactly this phenomenon in his book “think like a grandmaster.” He goes on to describe how to analyze logically and consistently. I highly recommend this book to you.
