There's been some talk and suggestions regarding the rating system recently(separate rating for clans etc).
Personally.I don't care about my rating but I know lots of players do.
An example of why the system isn't perfect or indeed a reliable guide to a players ability:-
I don't time players out,I know it's in the rules but I prefer to play games to their conclusion win or lose unless my situation is hopeless when I will resign.
I have been playing a chap who regularly failed to move within the time limit.
A whole lot of players must have timed him out,because his rating plummeted to 800 or something.
I then lost the game so my rating plummeted also.
Ok-so this doesn't bother me but gives a false indication.
If there was a way to separate time out losses from the current rating system it would make it more accurate.
@Trev333 saidI know that Trev,but my point is timeouts distort ratings,including average rating.
This is why they show average ratings, your current rating is only 30 odd points higher than your current rating.
If clan rating can be separate,as has been requested,timeout wins and losses could be as well.So if you win or lose by timeout ratings are unaffected.Just a thought.I don't expect it will ever happen.

Interesting idea, but I respectfully disagree. Rookie audits is correct. Time controls are put there for a reason, so take those skulls when they show up and you'll find that both yours and your opponent's rating will be more accurate, than if you did nothing. This is no different than winning on time in an OTB tournament when your opponent's clock shows 0.00 on move 17.
@Trev333 saidI just noticed we now have review game but it’s odd that someone can never be above say 1350, and then play a harder person and get these 2000 and above ratings on a game. Is there an issue with the review or are people cheating using aids I wonder? Here’s one example.

Just tried it there, was very slow to run. Gave me a game rating of 1500, and my opponent 2000 in a game we drew with both around 84% accuracy... strange that.
Chess.com has the same, doesnt mean much imo.

The worst was a very low person playing him going 26 moves and the same trend. To make it even 15 to 20 moves is difficult against him.

@Trev333 saidChess . Com never looks like that for me if I try or not like it did here. I just play one to five minute games and not very often though.

@mike69 saidIn those games you play against people rated the same, maybe if you play a solid game against a 2400 it inflates the rating given.

My blitz rating there is 1200 but never had a review much higher than 2000.
@Trev333 saidI clicked advanced player when I set my account up there so my rating stays pretty even never letting it go up much from the start. I played one longer game and it went to 1800 on that game.

@rookie-audits saidFair enough Rookie.
show no mercy !!! pain does not exist in this chess website !!! haha grab them skulls all day long lol thank you very much
I expect lots of others will think the same.
Have you considered a player may have had an accident and is in hospital unable to play for a few weeks?
It's not like OTB where your opponent is facing you.
I do take skulls to free my game load up,but only after a month of no moves from him.
@venda
Yes I have a couple of players say the same reason now .... I have lost many on time out ... at the end of the day its numbers on a screen....
