Executive orders can be turned over by the next president. Passing a bill is more long term.

You'd think for an "emergency" Republicans would want a long term solution by passing a bill instead of leaving it up to president who's legal term ends in 2 years.

There's clearly no sense of urgency by Republicans to make sure borders are secured based on their actions.

The longstanding complaint of conservatives, is that illegal immigration could be handled if the corrupt/inept a-holes in charge would just enforce the damn law. It goes back to Reagan pushing through amnesty for illegal aliens who had broken the law, with a promise of enhanced enforcement after the fact.

It didn't work out. Three million lawbreakers got their amnesty, the enforcement petered out, and we learned that amnesty first with enforcement later was a lie.

By the time Bush Jr and Rove were pushing the next big amnesty ("path to legalization" ) in the mid 2000's, there were supposedly 12 million illegals in the country, and we had to fight Bush and the GOP squishes to kill it. It was tough going because big donors to GOP wanted the cheap labor.

Then came the "Gang of Eight" effort in the Senate, the "if you want a border wall and enforcement of the law, you have to accept amnesty" bill. Boehner let that die in the House because he new the base vehemently opposed it. This was the start of the Tea Party movement. Their message: Enough was enough. If you want to have a conversation about amnesty, just enforce the damned law, build the wall, secure the border, and then maybe we can talk about it.

Along the way, the base started to despise the DC RINO's that were pushing the amnesty. McCain, McConnell, Graham, Cornyn, Flake, and we still remember Rubio too. They all got a big wake up call when the Tea Party grass roots took out Eric Cantor in 2014.

So now, with the border finally secured, and illegal immigrants getting deported as they should be, it finally feels like someone is enforcing the law as they always should have been, and the idea that we need some new legislation doesn't compute.

It ISN'T a big deal as long as the law is finally being enforced and no one is talking about amnesty. What are you not getting?

Cutting taxes is more important to them than legally enforcing border law.
